چکیده

some eight months previously. It was of a fairly severe nature making it impossible to carry on his duties as a policeman or even to walk about without pain. There was a history of an injury two years previously when he fell from a bicycle and injured his ankle. He did not remember any injury to his spine at the same time. Various types of treatment had been given to the patient for sciatica, such as massage, diathermy, manipulation of the sacro-iliac joint, injections of saline or novocaine into the nerve or its surroundings, etc. None was successful.

Sciatica caused by lumbar epidural gas

Gas production as a part of disc degeneration can occur but rarely causes nerve compression syndromes. The clinical features are similar to those of common sciatica. CT is very useful in the detection of epidural gas accumulation and nerve root compression. We report a case of symptomatic epidural gas accumulation originating from vacuum phenomenon in the intervertebral disc, causing lumbo-sacr...

Evaluation of the dermatomal somatosensory evoked potential in the diagnosis of lumbo-sacral root compression.

The dermatomal somatosensory evoked potential from the lumbo-sacral dermatomes was recorded from 21 patients with radiographically and surgically (20) proven lumbo-sacral root compression due to prolapsed intervertebral disc or canal stenosis. The potential was abnormal in 19 of the 20 surgically proven cases. The dermatomal somatosensory evoked potential is as accurate as myelography for diagn...

Spontaneous Resolution of Symptomatic Thoracic Spine Calcified Disc Herniation: A Case Report and Literature Review

Calcification of intervertebral disc (IVD) is an uncommon but well-defined clinical syndrome in children. Despite its benign nature, occasionally, calcified nucleus pulposus can herniate into the spinal canal. We report an interesting case of calcified disc herniation in the thoracic spine. Although it resulted in cord compression and syrinx formation, it well responded to conservative manageme...
